முன்னாள் நெல்லை மாவட்டம் தற்போது தென்காசி மாவட்டம் சிவகிரி தாலுகா நெல் கட்டும் செவல் பஞ்சாயத்து பாறைப்பட்டி கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த விவசாயி மகேஸ்வரன் என்பவர் சில தினங்களுக்கு முன்பு தென்காசி மாவட்ட ஆட்சியருக்கு கடிதம் ஒன்று அனுப்பி இருந்தார். அந்த கடிதத்தை படித்த மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் ஒரு நிமிடம் அதிர்ச்சியில் இருந்துள்ளார்.

அப்படி என்ன அந்த கடிதத்தில் இருந்தது என்று பார்த்தால் தற்போது கோடை காலமாக இருப்பதால் மகாத்மா காந்தி தேசிய ஊரக வளர்ச்சி திட்டத்தின் கீழ் நடக்கும் 100 நாட்கள் வேலைக்கு கிராமத்தில் உள்ள அனைவரும் சென்று விட்டதாகவும் நான் மூன்று ஏக்கர் நிலத்தில் பயிர் செய்துள்ளேன் அந்த நிலத்தில் களை எடுக்க ஆட்கள் தேவைப்படுவதால் தாங்கள் அலுவலகத்தில்
(மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் அலுவலகத்தில் )உள்ள உபரி ஊழியர்களை எங்கள் நிலத்தில் களை எடுக்க அனுப்புமாறும் அவ்வாறு அனுப்பி வைக்கும் ஊழியர்களுக்கு பஞ்சப்பாடி (DA )மற்றும் பயணப்படி ( T A) மதிய உணவு அனைத்தும் வழங்க தயாராக இருப்பதாகவும் ஆகவே தாங்கள் தங்கள் அலுவலகத்தில் உள்ள உபரி ஊழியர்களை அனுப்பி வைக்குமாறு கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறேன் என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளார். அது மட்டும் இல்லாமல் அந்த மனுவுடன் விவசாயம் செய்துள்ள நிலத்தின் புகைப்படத்தையும் சேர்த்து அனுப்பி உள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இந்த கடிதத்தை பார்த்த தென்காசி மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் என்ன பதில் அனுப்புவது என்று திகைத்துப் போய் இருப்பதாக தகவல் வந்துள்ளது. விவசாயிகளின் தற்போதைய உண்மையான நிலை இதுதான் என்று விவசாயி நூதன முறையில் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியருக்கு கடிதம் மூலம் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இயற்கை தன் நிறங்களை நிலங்களில் தூவிய இடம் நெல்கட்டுசெவல். இதன் இன்னொரு பெயர் அரிநாடு, மணி அரிசி. உன்னத் தருவான். ஆனால் ஒரு நெல்மணி கூட கப்பம் தரான் என கவிஞர்களால் பாடல் பெற்றவர்கள் மற்றும் நெருப்பாற்றை கடந்து வந்தவர்கள் என பெருமை பெற்றவர்கள் நெல்கட்டு செவல் ஊர் மக்கள், ஆறடி உயரம், வீரத்தில் அர்ச்சுனன், ஜோதி போல் ஜொலிக்கும் முகம், கார்மேக வர்ண தேகம், கவசம் போன்ற மார்பகம் என கும்மிப் பாடலொன்று பூலித்தேவரை வர்ணிக்கிறது.
